All Twisted Up

Wednesday, August 31, 2011
I have an infatuation. And it's with braids. The trend is not a new one and I can't quite trace the root of my love for the interwoven style, but I remember Lauren Conrad rocking the heck out of them during her days on The Hills.

While Lauren certainly didn't invent the braid, I do think she helped catapult it into popularity, between french braids, side braids, braid headbands and braided up-dos. And, no matter the cut, color or style, the girl always has flawless hair.

"It" Girls from coast to coast continue to rock the style from red carpets to coffee runs and the result is always a pretty yet seemingly effortless look.

Even though it is a great summer style, it can easily be adapted to fit a fall look (and is an awesome fix for bad hair days). For some at-home tutorials, check out Lauren Conrad's website, The Beauty Department.

The September Issue

Tuesday, August 30, 2011
No, I'm not talking about the fabulous documentary that provides insight as to what it's like to be — and work for — Anna Wintour. But as per the film, the September issue of magazines are often the biggest of the year, including the most advertisements and igniting excitement for the shifting seasons via super-sized fashion features.

After scouring all of the September cover girls this year, I was slightly disappointed to discover some key "It" Girls unrepresented. This could largely be due to the fact that they covered these same outlets earlier in the year. Nevertheless, the below publications do feature a mix of models and actresses that definitely are bringing "It" for the fall season.

Gisele Bündchen for i-D

Sarah Jessica Parker for Marie Claire

Rihanna for Glamour
Yes, I definitely noted this Rih spread in a previous post, but I couldn't leave her out!

Dianna Agron for Cosmopolitan

Anne Hathaway for Interview

Emma Stone for Teen Vogue

Jessica Stam for Flare

Christina Ricci for Nylon

Emma Stone Goes Pink
I am becoming a bigger fan of E. Stone by the minute, and am loving her promotional tour supporting Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Help. She rocked these hot pink Brian Atwood pumps in NYC, and later this pink Christopher Kane dress on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (accompanied by yet another pair of Brian Atwoods). Who says redheads can't wear pink?

Emma Watson's i-D Magazine shoot
Speaking of Emmas, Emma Watson looks absolutely stunning in this shoot, donning a gold sequined Chanel blazer and detachable collar. Her ruby red nails and lipstick just set it all off.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Keep Cool for StyleMint
The duo recently launched StyleMint, a website that selects t-shirts for you based on your personal style. In this video, the girls splash around in a kiddie pool to promote a contest to win a year's worth of t-shirts. It's refreshing to see these ladies being a little silly!

Royalty in Balmain
Those close to me know I'm just a tad obsessed with all things Royal. (I may have watched the entire Royal Wedding from start to finish a handful of times). When I heard Charlotte Casiraghi, granddaughter of Grace Kelly and daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, was French Vogue's September cover girl, I was excited to see the photos. The editorial is beautiful, but my favorite of the bunch has to be this shot of Charlotte in Balmain fall 2011 ready-to-wear.

Chloë Moretz's Rainbow Frock
Yet another appearance from Christopher Kane, this rainbow-colored ensemble from the resort 2012 collection is just lovely. Chloë is 14! I wish I was this stylish when I was her age!

Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe
Michelle transforms into Marilyn in My Week With Marilyn, debuting at the New York Film Festival on October 9. The newly released shot from the movie has me convinced that this is going to be a must-see — for both Marilyn's story as well as Michelle's performance.

Nicole Richie's Alexander McQueen Skull Scarf
Nicole has worn this scarf on various occasions (and in different colors), but the girl knows a classic piece when she sees it. She sported her black and white scarf during a girl's night out this past weekend, proving that one accessory can make a simple outfit chic.

Happy Birthday, Mila Kunis!

Sunday, August 14, 2011
As Mila Kunis is often mentioned on this blog and happens to be one of my very favorite "It" Girls, I couldn't let her 28th birthday go by without dedicating a post to her.

GQ (with an adornment by moi)

So here's to you, Mila — for being a great actress who has proven talent in a range of roles; for always looking amazing on the red carpet; for chewing out that reporter in Russian; and for being so likable and genuinely awesome.

And, of course, I had to compile a few of my favorite looks from Mila. And as a bonus, Mila's 1994 commercial for Telephone Tammy. ("Wait till you see my new hat!")

"It" Girls of Superhero Movies

Friday, August 12, 2011
I've admired Wonder Woman since I was a little girl. Although I wasn't an avid follower, I remember seeing her in various forms of media, in awe of her amazing ability to kick ass and have awesome accessories.

Superheroes have been in existence for decades, and spawned a slew of accompanying movies that often hit theaters during summertime. From Thor to Captain America, the genre has certainly been dominating the box office this summer. And there's more to come, with The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises set to be released in 2012.

Naturally, "It" Girls have been tapped to play major roles in some of the biggest films. While the majority of the leading ladies are not superheroes themselves (boooo!), they fill the always essential role of the love interest, dealing with all of the burdens that come along with falling for a man who is busy fighting evil and trying to save the world. Even if the movie is not up to par (I am looking at you, Green Lantern), it is always nice to see one of the "It" Girls shining.

There are a lot of characters and storylines to take in, but thankfully, my bestie happens to be a comic book and Marvel connoisseur, so I'm all set. And, with his help, I was exposed to every superhero movie that hit theaters this summer.

Below is a showcase of the "It" Girls who have appeared in this summer's comic-based films, as well as a preview of those amping up for their movies next year. Bonus points to anyone who can guess my favorite out of the bunch (hint: she is really sparkly).

January Jones as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class
20th Century Fox

Zoë Kravitz as Angel Salvadore in X-Men: First Class
20th Century Fox

Blake Lively as Carol Ferris in Green Lantern
DC Entertainment

Natalie Portman as Jane Foster in Thor
Marvel Studios

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises
Legendary Pictures

Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man
Columbia Pictures / Marvel Entertainment

The "It" Mamas

Monday, August 8, 2011
The life of an "It" Girl primarily consists of red carpets, event appearances, talk shows and, in between it all, stocking her closet full of Louboutins and Chloé handbags. With such a busy schedule, it seems difficult to maintain relationships, let alone have a family. However, quite a few starlets have proven that they can juggle stardom with mommyhood.

There has been a definite baby boom in Hollywood, with headline news about pregnancies blowing up on Twitter seemingly daily. But, as the "It" Girls below demonstrate, becoming a mom does not mean the loss of their sense of charm, style and "It" factor.

Miranda Kerr with son Flynn

(l) Kate Hudson with son Ryder; (r) pregnant with son Bing

Sarah Jessica Parker with son James Wilkie and twin daughters Marion & Tabitha

Jessica Alba with daughter Honor and pregnant with her son or daughter (who should be here soon!)

Nicole Richie with daughter Harlow & son Sparrow

"It" List: August 2

Tuesday, August 2, 2011
It is officially August, and I'm left pondering where the summer has gone. But it's still scorching outside, and my "It" Girls are serving up the heat, as usual, too.

Below I've captured what's hot among a select few "It" Girls right now:

Mila Kunis' Lanvin Pumps
Mila always seems to nail it, and her Louis Vuitton dress at the premiere of Friends with Benefits in Moscow was lovely. But those Lanvin python pumps from the Spring 2011 collection really set me off. Gorgeous!

Karlie Kloss' Gucci Dress
I'm not ordinarily the biggest Gucci fan, but their Fall 2011 collection included some beautiful pieces. One of the highlights from the collection is this dress, modeled flawlessly by Karlie Kloss on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia's September cover.

Nicole Richie's Side-Braid
Ob-sessed with this hair style. Nicole rocked this french side-braid at the Ella Moss 10 Year Anniversary Celebration and had me desperately wishing I was talented enough to do it to my own hair.

Lauren Conrad's Ombré Nails
Naysayers like to label Ms. Conrad boring, but this nail polish combo is anything but - and a perfect summer look. I love Lauren's use of blues, and would love to try it with pink shades.

Rihanna's Glamour Shoot
Rihanna is absolutely killin' 'em in this photoshoot, embodying sophisticated and sexy in designers such as Givenchy, Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent. A couple of my favorite shots are below, but you can check out the full shoot on Glamour's website.
