15 Major "Gossip Girl" Looks

Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Since its debut in 2007, I have been absolutely hooked on "Gossip Girl." Between the break-ups, hook-ups and WTFs every week, it manages to enthrall and enrage me at the same time. It is so magical.

To say "Gossip Girl" is known for fashion is an understatement. The wardrobe does more than induce drooling — it is integrated into the story lines as much as outlandish scandals and whimsical one-liners. Each piece tells a story, in addition to reflecting the character wearing it.

From more modest beginnings of bow-embellished headbands and sequined cardigans as prep school uniform accessories, the show's "It" Girls, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), have transformed into the definition of glamour, sophistication and chic. Labels such as Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Valentino and Oscar de la Renta are regularly incorporated into the ladies' outfits, making for some spectacular fashion moments. Blair's style represents pure classic elegance, while Serena embodies modern boho with a hint of rocker edge.

It is usually easy for me to claim favorites. (Favorite superhero? Wonder Woman. Favorite member of Big Time Rush? James. You get the picture.) But when it comes to choosing my top looks from the show, it is near painful to choose from more than four and a half seasons of amazing looks.

Still, I love a challenge, and after much soul searching, compiled 15 stand-outs:

Ralph Lauren Black Label
(Season 4, Episode 15: "It-Girl Happened One Night")

Marc by Marc Jacobs
(Season 2, Episode 1: "Summer, Kind of Wonderful")

Jenny Packham
(Season 4, Episode 3: The Undergraduates)

Dries Van Noten + Ulla Johnson
(Season 4, Episode 11: The Townie)

Emilio Pucci, Joie, Chanel + Brian Atwood
(Season 4, Episode 2: Double Identity)

Diane von Furstenberg + Nanette Lepore
(Season 2, Episode 18: The Age of Dissonance)

Nanette Lepore, Joie, Gryphon + Chanel
(Season 4, Episode 4: Touch of Eva)

Matthew Williamson
(Season 3, Episode 17: Inglourious Bassterds)

Haute Hippie, Madison Marcus, Rachel Antonoff + Pierre Hardy
(Season 4, Episode 1: Belles de Jour)

Valentino, Usai, John Patrick Organic + Ferragamo
(Season 4, Episode 13:  Damien Darko)

Suno, Raffia + Dries van Noten
(Season 4, Episode 1: Belles de Jour)

Fendi + Louis Vuitton
(Season 4, Episode 21: Shattered Bass)

Moschino, Carlos Miele + Loeffler Randall
(Season 5, Episode 9: I Am Number Nine)

Reem Acra Resort
(Season 5, Episode 15: "Crazy, Cupid, Love" )

Diane von Furstenberg
(Season 5, Episode 9: Rhodes to Perdition)

With seven more episodes of season five and at least one more season, I can't wait to see what new tricks stylist Eric Daman has up his sleeve.

I will leave you with these golden words of wisdom from Ms. Waldorf herself: "Whoever said that money doesn't buy happiness didn't know where to shop." So true, B. So true.

  1. Not enough season 1 - Season 1 totally changed the way I dressed for about 2 years.
