Designer. Philanthropist. Icon. When it comes to "It" Girls, Diane von Furstenberg is certainly a part of the upper echelon. So much more than the mastermind behind the staple wrap dress, Diane is an empowering figure. (It should also be noted that Diane is a fellow Capricorn, for which I can't help but to love her even more.)
It is impossible for a woman to not love DVF's designs based upon fit and pure timelessness alone, and I could rave about all of the pieces I currently yearn to have in my closet. What's more, I have come to find her famous nuggets of wisdom incredibly inspirational. I've highlighted just a few gems below:
"The most important relationship is the relationship you have with yourself."
"I believe all women are strong. Sometimes they just don’t show it."
"Welcome the changes...trust your future. And trust yourself."
“The biggest mistake a woman can make is not to be herself in public or private.”
"There's no success without frustration."
"You know, there's a thing about the woman across the room. You see the woman across the room, you think, She's so poised; she's so together. But she looks at you and you are the woman across the room for her."
"Fear is not an option."
"Take time to dream about the kind of woman you want to be, and then become that woman."
The last quote I find particularly powerful, and it coincides with one of my favorite DVF projects. In 2008, she collaborated with DC Comics to create a collection and comic book inspired by my favorite superhero, Wonder Woman. In times of doubt and distress, I like to remember the tagline: "Be the Wonder Woman you can be."
