Summertime is everything that is "It" - days at the beach, drinks at rooftop bars and outdoor concerts, to name a few. Magazines also recognize the season as a time to feature the best of the best, and a few of my favorites selected three of my favorite "It" Girls for their July issues. Let's review!
Florence Welch for Harper's Bazaar UK
Florence has quickly become one of my favorite musicians. Her second album, Ceremonials, solidified my admiration of her enchanting, ethereal style. If you haven't given it a listen - shame on you - start with a few of my favorites, "Only If For A Night," 'Never Let Me Go" and "Spectrum." For Harper's Bazaar's UK edition, Flo received two July covers, both draped in Valentino Couture. The bestie, who is likely her biggest fan on the planet, and I are looking forward to seeing her live twice this summer, including her performance at this year's Lollapalooza.
Blake Lively for Marie ClaireWhen I heard Blake was Marie Claire's July cover girl, of course I was pleased. When I heard she was wearing Balmain, I nearly squealed with delight. As always, Blake is perfection personified on the cover, and in Dolce & Gabbana, Antonio Berardi and Jenny Packham in the spread. Look for her as a hippie who gets kidnapped (!) in Savages, in theaters July 6.
Standout quote: "I recently shared how many boyfriends I've had [four], and people were like, 'That's impossible!' But it's true. I've been with very few people. If I'm not with somebody who really excites or inspires me, then I'd rather be by myself."
Emma Stone for Vogue
Back in January, I compiled a wish list of sorts for Vogue cover candidates. When I heard Emma would be the girl du jour in July's Vogue, I wanted to give Anna a hug for obviously hearing me. The cover, featuring Ms. Stone in Nina Ricci, is fantastic, and I love the shoot's contrast between girly (i.e. the red and white Jil Sander dress) to funky (displayed by the Dries Van Noten number). Emma is a busy girl right now, promoting and hitting red carpet premieres for The Amazing Spider-Man, slated for a U.S. release date of July 3. And, in the fall, she will once again be appearing alongside Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad. (I can't even be jealous - Emma is just too endearing.)
Standout quote (albeit "stolen"): "There’s this Ryan Gosling quote that I steal all the time—I watched an interview with him in Cannes—and he said picking roles is like listening to songs on the radio: There can be a lot of really great songs in a row, but then one comes on that just makes you want to dance."
Bonus: In a recent interview with Hollywood.com, Emma talked about gifs (one of my favorite things in life) and shared this nugget, which inevitably became a gif. Naturally.
