"It" Boy Bands for Every "It" Girl

Tuesday, September 25, 2012
My obsession with boy bands originated when I was 12 years old. Hanson "MMMBop"ed their way into the charts and, simultaneously, into my heart. My very first concert was their "Middle of Nowhere" tour and, although it rained and I was on the muddy lawn, I was in heaven.

Then, it was *NSYNC, and I was all about *NSYNC. To this day, I still have debates about why *NSYNC is better than the Backstreet Boys. But even as much as I adored *NSYNC, I also had 98 Degrees, LFO, O-Town and even a little bit of BSB on heavy rotation on my discman.

Fast forward more than a decade later, and some of the top songs played on my iTunes are from quartets or  quintets of young men. Unless you've been living under a rock, you're aware boy bands are everything right now. Even The New York Times ran a feature about their popularity earlier this year. In response to the resurgence, some people may ask: "WHY?" I will give you two reasons

1) Boy bands are fun.
2) Boy bands are cute.

I didn't promise profound reasons.

Whether you genuinely enjoy their music, consider them a guilty pleasure or just have the hots for a member or two, there is a special place in an "It" Girl's heart for boy bands. Thus, I am going to break down three of my personal favorites.

Fashion Inspiration: Jessa Johansson

Monday, September 17, 2012
I am going through major "Girls" withdrawal. The HBO series instantly became one of my favorite shows after watching the first episode. While the second season doesn't kick off until January, I thought I could tide over my craving by focusing a post on one of my favorite characters, Jessa.

In case you haven't watched the show, it chronicles the lives of four women in New York City, dealing with their careers, relationships and friendships. Sound familiar to my all-time favorite show "Sex and the City"? Creator, writer, director and star Lena Dunham shared there is an undeniable connection between the two: "This show couldn't exist without 'Sex and the City,' both for what it opened up for women on television and because these characters were raised on 'Sex and the City.'" The difference? "Girls" is less polished, less glamourous and, well, less sexy. Lena told Reuters, "What is similar is the constant struggle to define yourself, it is set in this urban jungle — if we want to call it that — and the strong relationships between women."

What A Hoot!

For some reason, owls have always fascinated me. It has been said they represent wisdom, intuition, mystery and even magic among the Native American culture. Additionally, the symbol of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, strength and skill, was an owl.

It's no wonder these feathered friends were all over Christopher Bailey's Fall 2012 Burberry Prorsum collection, from charming screen printed tees to embellished sweaters.

Britney Spears Shines for ELLE

Saturday, September 8, 2012
There is one "It" Girl who, until now, did not have a presence on this blog. To some, she may not even be considered a part of the category. But those who know me best know that, no matter what she wears, says or does, she will always have a place in my heart. And, truly, her "It" factor is what made me fall in love with her to begin with.

Who I speak of is none other than Britney Spears. Since the first time I heard the song "...Baby One More Time," I have been an unwavering Britney fan stan. Through her highs (I've seen her in concert five times, vividly remember sitting on the floor watching her 2000 MTV Video Music Awards performance and basically threw confetti when Femme Fatale dropped three top 10 singles), lows (let's not talk about it) and everything in between, I have felt nothing but a strong adoration and appreciation for her.

September marks a busy month for Britney, with the debut of her role as judge on "The X Factor" and TV appearances to support it, the launch of her Twister Dance commercial and a guest spot on a new song from's album. One surprise and delight for me was learning she is ELLE's October cover girl.

It List - Labor Day Edition

Monday, September 3, 2012
I may be in the minority, but I am actually happy to say farewell to summer and hello to fall. I thought a perfect end-of-summer post would be to bring back the "It" List, which has not been featured in some time. Without further ado, let's see what some of my favorite "It" Girls have been up to, shall we?

3 Lessons from "The Hills"

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Even an "It" Girl needs a day of lounging. Today, this girl spent the majority of a rainy Chicago afternoon contently curled on the couch, taking advantage of "The Hills" marathon MTV is currently airing.  Watching Lauren, Heidi, Audrina and the other "Hills"-ites brought me back to the days before this blog existed (aka college) — and made me realize  real or staged, silly as it all might have been, there are some lessons an "It" Girl could learn from the ladies of Los Angeles. Baffled by this revelation? Allow me to explain.
