5 Eco-Friendly Beauty Products

Monday, March 11, 2013
Admittedly, I am not Miss Organic 2013. However, I am more interested than ever in environmentally-friendly items — especially in the beauty arena, where products tend to be chemically-ridden and my skin is ultra sensitive.

These products were created to help "It" Girls look gorgeous, while feeling good about being a little "greener." Feel free to share some of your favorites in the comments!

If you're like me, you change the color of your nails at least once a week. Unfortunately, the chemicals used in various nail products can be harsh for both your nails and the environment.

Enter Scotch Naturals, a brand which prides itself on being "smart fun, and forward thinking." In addition to a wide array of hues like Stone Fence, a creamy gray, to baby pink Southern Charmer, all Scotch Natural products are cruelty-free, gluten free, fragrance free, toxin free, paraben free, hypoallergenic and biodegradable.

I also recently discovered Ginger + Liz, a vegan friendly and toxin free line which offers a range of neon, glitter, metallic and pastel shades. I can't wait to try these!

I am incredibly grateful I am blessed with naturally full lashes. However, when it comes to special occasions, I like an even bigger boost, and EcoTools' Naturally Beautiful Lashes hit the spot.

The eyelash system includes an applicator and glue, as well as eyelashes made from cruelty-free synthetic materials. I l-o-v-e how natural and soft the eyelashes feel! Another bonus of this product is the accompanying easy glide-on glue, which is formulated without chemicals like formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates and latex. It goes on iridescent and dries clear, for a clean application. I will definitely use these when I want the extra volume.

When it comes down to it, a beautiful smile is an invaluable beauty asset. Tom’s of Maine has been well-known for years, thanks to their natural personal care products ranging from deodorant to soap. The company recently launched the Naturally Clean Toothbrush, which I tried in place of my usual brush.

In addition to being BPA-free, the bristles are dye-free and its handle is derived from renewable castor oil plants instead of petroleum. In addition to feeling good about its composition, I love how tingly clean it leaves my mouth after use.

Korres' Lip Butter has been one of my favorite beauty finds over the past six months. It provides two key attributes in one: moisture and color. The line is available in seven shades, each formulated with natural oils and extracts which are free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan. I love the range of colors (Wild Rose is my favorite), and how it leaves my lips feeling soft and smooth — never sticky!
